COACH KEN ON VIHIGA UNITED MATCH, TEAM STATUS AND TRANSFER SPECULATIONS.

Head coach Ken Odhiambo faced the club’s media and here is what the coach said

On facing Vihiga United
Definitely it’s going to be tough match in Mumias, they Vihiga won against Gor Mahia and that in itself gives them a huge confidence going into the match on Saturday. The City Stars match was a tough one too on our end and having won over the weekend we want to get more wins moving forward to build on some consistency.

On team preparations
We resumed our preparations on Tuesday and all has been well, we played a friendly match today Wednesday in getting ready for the clash. It’s been a boost too because nearly everyone is fit.

On consistency
It’s very important to keep winning matches, we haven’t had a good run in our past fixtures and it is a huge concern. You look at the table you get two wins and you move up the log. We really want to build on our last weekend’s win over Nairobi City Stars and make it two wins in a row.

On Injuries
So far we are doing good no major injury concerns from City Stars match . We got Isaiah Wakasala and David Simiyu who are still out continuing with their recovery.

On upcoming transfer window and speculations
I don’t want to comment much on it because the official transfer window has not began. A lot of speculations have made rounds since Monday and I want to clarify that we haven’t dropped nor terminated any players contract. When the time comes we shall share with players who shall have been affected before making it public.

LATEST FROM THE COACH ON NAIROBI CITY STARS MATCH

On team preparations
We’ve had a good preparation so far, everyone is in good shape and I feel we are set for Saturday’s duel.

On facing City Stars
We are facing a good side, they have a good set of players and have had decent run in the league. Definitely this will be a tough match and they will in all ways give us a good test on Saturday.

Ongoing for maximum points
Yes we are going for maximum points, we are at home and we have to bounce back to winning ways. We want to build on consistency, Nzoia match was a setback due to our own mistakes but we want to correct on that beginning Saturday.

On having captain Asieche back a booster.
We are glad to have two dependable players back with us. Captain Asieche and Stephen Okola are all back and fit for selection. Asieche will be a huge boost to us especially after we lost Lawrence Juma last weekend.

Sofapaka will welcome Nairobi City Stars on Saturday 23rd at Wundanyi Stadium.

OKOLA ON INJURY AND JOURNEY TO RECOVERY.

Ahead of Nairobi City Stars match, Sofapaka will welcome young defender Stephen Okola after a six week long lay off.

Okola who sustained an ankle injury has missed six matches into the new season, he speaks on his injury and road to recovery.

On the injury sustained
I picked up the injury during our preseason preparations that made me miss out on the first match of the season away in Mombasa but lucky enough I recovered on time for Kariobangi Sharks tie. The coach gave me a starting role in the match but just after five minutes into the match sadly the unexpected happened, while battling for the ball, Sharks forward Erick Kapaito landed on the just recovered ankle leading to my withdrawal in the game.

On his journey to recovery.
It has been such a difficult period for me because as a player you desire to play every week. Frustrating yes it has been because of being on and off the pitch, especially for me who worked hard to break into the first team from the youth team.

My journey to recovery has been incredible though long but good it has been. The past six weeks really shaped me in so many ways. During this period, I developed a strong mentality to face such situations and a special mention to the team physio one Ambrose Oriko who’s really played a huge role in my recovery.

On any pressure to get back to the team.
Six weeks is such a long time and definitely yes I feel the pressure to get back to the first team. I had cemented a position in the team and with the current depth I will have to work extremely extra to get back to the team.

On your feeling having recovered.
It feels good to be back and to reunite with the team, I look forward to battle it out with my teammates and win matches together.

Okola will be available for selection when we take on Nairobi City Stars on Saturday.
