ODHIAMBO ON MAXIMUM POINTS, MENTALITY AND HOMEBOYZ GAME

The manager held his pre-match press briefing ahead of Sunday’s showdown against Kakamega Homeboyz. The coach discussed maximum points, mentality, consistency, and more.

On Homeboyz fixture;
We are facing strong opposition on Sunday, they are compact at the back and lethal upfront that makes them a hard side not to crack easily. The point difference tells it, we are in for a tough match jut we are well prepared for the duel on Sunday.”

On previous meetings with Homeboyz;
” It has always been close affairs in our past fixtures though we have emerged winners in most occasions and we only want to maintain on the record.”

On mentality;
“To win matches, be at the top, and challenge for the title calls for strong mentality from players throughout. It has been a concern for us in the past fixtures where we lost matches that we should have picked maximum points. We want to be champions and for us to achieve that we need to up on our mentality, we have discussed it and I only hope we start seeing a positive change on it.”

On maximum points on Homeboyz fixture;
“Sunday’s game is a crucial one for us because we seriously need the points. We go into the clash with the sole aim of bagging the points and of course bragging rights too. Our away record is a poor one and we want to bring an end to such by winning Homeboyz fixture and making it two out of two from Posta Rangers win a fortnight ago.”

On consistency;
“It’s still a huge concern, we haven’t had a string of positive results from our fixtures and we want to bring an end to it. A win over Homeboyz and the next two home fixtures will give us a proper picture and momentum.”

On missing five key squad members;

Another opportunity would come calling and I had to switch to Bukavu Dawa FC based in Bukavu. Later on, I joined both Virunga Goma Lumbubashi Sport where I had my final career journey in Congo before joining Rukinzo of Burundi.”

On his move to the club;
“The club president Mr. Elly Kalekwa had been following my journey in football for some time, his interest in me grew while I was at Rukinzo Football Club of Burundi. Mr. Kalekwa would on most occasions come to watch some of our matches in Burundi and at times I would as well share videos of the matches. We kept in touch, he expressed to me his ambitions and that of the club and one word stood and that is to be champions. This what made it easier for me to make my decision to join the club. He the President of the club took his time to fly to Burundi where he held talks with my former employer and finalized my move to Sofapaka.”

On his debut game;

On his thoughts on the club;
“The team now has depth to compete effectively to be champions, we are a set of new of players who have joined the club and it’s only a matter of time we get to jell and cause teams troubles. We have a supportive coach who is well learned and by the end of the first leg we shall be good to go.”

On the standards of the FKF League;
“The league is so competitive, every team is fighting hard for the points and a place for top honors. In the matches have played I have experienced physicality, lots of goals being scored, no underdogs, and each game and win counts when you want to be champions. Am not worried but am adapting well to the new environment and I believe I will settle in time.”

Sofapaka is a big step for me to realize my dreams but in achieving so I have to be at my best to help the club to become champions. It’s by doing so that my abilities will be identified and dreams realized.”

SOFAPAKA VS BIDCO UNITED POST MATCH ANALYSIS

Bidco United held Sofapaka to a barren draw in a Betking Premier League match played on Saturday at Wundanyi Stadium.

Bidco’s half
Visitors Bidco had a brilliant first half, they had numerous chances to convert but were denied by a well-organized Batoto Ba Mungu defense. Former Tusker and Sofapaka forward Peter Nzuki and Stephen Waruru came so close for Bidco but their attempts were well dealt with by keeper Kevin Omondi.

Hosts half
The second half witnessed a strong final half from the team. A series of counterattacks from both the left and right wings proved dangerous but a strong Bidco defense frustrated our attempts. Towards the final minutes of the game, Lawrence Juma would have scored the decisive goal but lack of composure would see him blast his shot off target.

Sifuna shines
Young star Ambrose Sifuna continued to prove a point, the former Soy United winger had a decent game proving a thorn at Bidco’s defense. The youngster had four dangerous solo attempts but was saved.

New signings feature
Our deadline day signings are all featured in the encounter. A second-half appearance for the trio of Mutamba, David King’atua, and Alex Imbusia

Coach’s comment
“Bidco had a good first half, they were on top but we defended well. The second half was ours to get the maximum points but sadly we picked a point.”

On whether Bidco draw is a disappointment;
“Honestly yes we feel disappointed especially when playing at home. We came for the three points in the game but then a point out of it. We welcome the point and shift our focus to the next fixture against Kakamega Homeboyz.”

On new signings ;
“Today we had all our deadline day signings feature in the game. Am happy we have players in every position and it’s only a matter of time for the team to gel. Once we achieve that then we shall be good to go.” The coach concluded.

Sofapaka next faces Kakamega Homeboyz.
