Echesa in as Baraza names squad for Thika United

John ‘JB’ Baraza has selected the 18 players who will travel to Afraha stadium in Nakuru county ahead of round 19 of the Kenyan premier league game slated for Sunday 6th August at 2pm. JB has made one change from the team that took on Muhoroni youth on Wednesday at Muhoroni complex. In the squad, winger Timothy Luda has been replaced by captain Hillary Echesa who was out with fatigue.

Boost for Baraza as Echesa, Odour return from injuries

2009 Kenyan premier league (KPL) champions, Sofapaka football club, will go into the weekend action with nearly a full-fit squad. Batoto Ba Mungu will clash with Thika United at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru county on Sunday, August 6th, starting at 2:00pm, before paving way for another KPL match pitting AFC leopards and Bandari.

John Baraza, who will be in full charge of the team in the absence of the head coach Sam Ssimbwa, is boosted with the return of captain Hillary Echesa and striker cum midfielder Micheal Odour. The duo were among those who were previously sidelined and missed the midweek clash with Muhoroni youth due to injuries and are back in training, a thing that will aid coach Baraza’s selection options.

“It is great to be back, my ankle is fine now, I have healed completely and I’m ready to play. My main aim is to aid my team in every way possible to win. I am hopeful we will be doing better in the coming matches, we’ll see that we get to the top of the table,” Michael Odour told sofapaka.co ke shortly after Friday training in Eastleigh.

Goalkeeper George Opiyo and defender Edmond Kwanya are the other players still on the injury list through injuries and illness. The team will depart Nairobi for Nakuru on Saturday evening ahead of their round 19 encounter with Thika United. Both teams drew 0-0 in their last KPL meeting.

Players all Set as Baraza Takes Charge for Thika Game

Assistant coach, John Baraza, will be leading Sofapaka Football Club as the lads play host to Thika United in a Kenyan premier league game scheduled on Sunday, 6th August at Afraha stadium in Nakuru. Baraza will be taking control of the team in the absence of head coach Sam Ssimbwa, who left for Kampala (ahead of a family function) immediately after leading the team to a 2-3 win over Muhoroni Youth on Wednesday 2 August.

Baraza, who was an interim coach for Sofa in the latter stages of the last season, told sofapaka.co.ke, “I’m ready for the task ahead of me. It will not be the first time leading this team. Currently, the team is doing good and strong.”

He added, “Hillary Echesa has recovered and the other players are well. Even though we have little time to prepare for our next game (against Thika), all the players are set and mentally fit for the tie”. He added, “We played well against Muhoroni on Wednesday and our fans should expect a good game with Thika and probably a win.”

Muhoroni Win Was Based on Strategies | Maurice Odipo

Sofapaka assistant captain, Maurice Odipo, has revealed the secret behind their 2-3 win over Muhoroni youth in Kenyan Premier League game staged at Muho complex on Wednesday.

Odipo, who was among the scorers on the day, says Sofapaka went into the match knowing Muho’s style of play having played the side three days earlier, a thing that aided Batoto Ba Mungu draw a different approach of the game.

“The win against them (Muhoroni) was a planned one. We had faced them a few days back and knew their strong points and style of play. So, together with the coaches, we went back to drawing board and laid different strategies of how to tackle them this time round. One of the strategies among others was displaying low balls right from our goalkeeper to the final third of the pack and this guided us to two goals in the first stanza,” Odipo, who wore the armband during the match, told sofapaka.co.ke

However, he understands that despite the fact that the strategies yielded fruit, the Gilbert Selebwe coached side staged a hard fight, especially in the second half. The 29 year old Odipo added, “Muhoroni were resilient mostly in second half with endless attacks but thankfully, we defended well.”????

Full Points as Sofapaka Return to Winning Ways

Sofapaka Football Club claimed three points following a 2-3 win over buoyant Muhoroni Youth in a Kenyan premier league (KPL) game played Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Muho complex.

Team captain Maurice Odipo put us ahead in the five opening minutes of halftime after heading home from a free kick. The hosts threatened them after as they intensified their chase for an equalizer but Sam Ssimbwa’s charges were equal to all dangers.

Ali Feni and Umaru Kasumba struck the other goals in the 45th and 49th minutes respectively. Ambrose Ayoyi and Hassan Kikoyo netted for the hosts in the epic game that saw Maurice Odipo among those booked by the center referee.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia defeated Nakumatt 1-0 as Kariobangi Sharks went down 3-2 to Zoo while Rangers beat visiting Tusker 1-0. Sofapaka now stands 5th on the table with 28 points, six adrift leaders Gor Mahia.

The KPL will resume this weekend with Sofapaka hosting Thika FC at Afraha stadium in Nakuru County.

Sofapaka 18-Squad for Muhoroni Revealed

Sofapaka technical has revealed the eighteen players who will be taking in Muhoroni youth in the return leg of the 2017 Kenyan premier league at the embattled Muhoroni stadium.

The epic encounter scheduled for Wednesday 2nd August will see Batoto Ba Mungu play without a couple of players. Team skipper Hillary Echesa, Michael Odour, George Opiyo, Samuel Mutiria and Edmond Kwanya were all ruled out of the encounter due to illnesses and injuries.

Goalkeepers Juma Reuben ,Mathias Kigonya and defenders Wesley Onguso are among those that made to the 18man squad for Muho. Others include Mohammed Kilume, Meshack Karani, Ali Feni, Morven Otinya and Timothy Luda.
